Workation in South Africa
From the English words "Work" and "Vacation" the term "Workation" is formed. It describes the combination of work and vacation at a favored location.
Jennifer Helmert works as an IT project manager at avitea's headquarters in Lippstadt. This year, however, she fulfilled her dream of workation in South Africa in coordination with her superiors. Of course, there were some conditions to be clarified beforehand. On the one hand, the activities had to fit in with the purely digital way of working. On the other hand, legal and organizational issues had to be clarified.
As a future-oriented company, avitea tries to create contemporary work opportunities for its employees in Jennifer's case, this was more than successful.
"Working where others go on vacation" - under this motto, she went to South Africa in March of this year, with her work laptop and headset in her luggage, of course.
After four months, it's time to take stock:
- Six weeks in Bokaap, a former Malaysian slave quarter which is now known for its colorful houses.
- Five weeks Seapoint Ocean View Drive with beautiful sunsets
- Two weeks Gradenroute from Mosselbay to Franschhoek with countless beaches
- One week Gardens Capetown
As a result, the day-to-day work took place from a variety of locations and video meetings provided numerous appointments with a personal touch.
Two more months in South Africa are still ahead for Jennifer, then it's back to Germany and the office in Lippstadt for her.
